Round Five, underway

Nancy here,

Good news. The tumors are reacting to the treatments. All tumors are less active. Currently, my father-in-law law is in the midst of his fifth round. The news that the treatments are making a difference really helped lift his spirits. Thank you for all your healing thoughts and communications with Jeff.

Jeff Jr. is with his dad in Riverside at the moment. Wendy is on her way up today. We hope Jeff will be home on Tuesday or Wednesday to begin his recovering from Round Five.

Hi Jeff,

It is the 31st and after sending you that short message I

went to the blog and read your postings made on Tuesday, 3/29. Great

pictures of Diego and you, I remember him well. I am glad to hear

that you want to eat and that you prefer hot food. Remember Dick's

comment that "a good Mexican meal burns at both ends." To help you

sleep and quell anxiety, try xanax if you haven't already done so.

Just 5 mg puts me right to sound sleep and I have no sleep hangover

in the morning. Glad to know that margaritas haven't failed you,

there is nothing like a cold one after one mows the grass.

OK, so Judy and I are looking ahead to 4/6, the report re the

PET scan and round #3 of the chemo. You have many people pulling for

you and the reason is because you are such a wonderful person. I

will never forget what Dick said about you at the China Max dinner.

OK man, we are all pulling for you.

Jeff I just got a message from Heidi about the fight you are fighting withthe melanoma. I likely don't have a lot of specific things to say thatothers have not already said, but I am thinking about you a lot and Ioffer whatever support it is in power to give. I don't think there isanything a person can say that makes these things easier, its just abunch of flavors of hard. But I am reminded of many conversations I hadwith Mike Clifton about his carcinoma and he was a convincing case thatvictories can go to those who fight hard. Kick some ass. Steve K

Hey lord Jeff the Navigator – I tried to get onto your blog and write something uplifting but I just turned 65 and can’t crack the code of the funny letters to send a message. I know that you are going back for more treatments tomorrow. My thoughts are with you and I know you will be strong through out. Arlene and I have you in our prayers, even though I’m not a praying man – you never know. Get better and I will try to stay in contact with your blog if I can figure out how to get in. Good luck in what is going to be a trying time for all

Nick just e-mailed the devastating news, and I called and talked with him briefly, so I am aware of some of the details. I'm not sure there is anything for me to say other than let you know how concerned I am. I have not had time to tell Mary yet (she is at work), but I know she will be extremely shocked by the news.

You have been and still are such an important part of my life. I find myself using wisdom and even figures of speech that you taught me nearly 30 years ago. My kids even know who Jeff is and understand your contribution to their dad's success.

I'm hoping you'll have the strength and would be up for a short visit from me, perhaps in early April? If not then, I could easily fly over in May. I don't want to take any time away from family, so I'll wait on word from you when it would be best for me to visit. I have places to stay in San Diego, and seeing you for even 15 minutes would make the trip worthwhile.

No need to reply to this. Nick promises to keep me informed.

Just wanted to make sure you know we care and are thinking about you and your family.

I got the sad news about you from Nick yesterday, however, I also know that this illness can be beaten. I am planning on visiting you this Friday late morning and have written to Dick and Glenda to see if they would like to come along with me. So far, I have not gotten a reply from them yet. Of course, this highly depends on you as to whether you have the energy to meet with us. Please let me know. Also let me know how I can help to keep your lab running and I will surely have time to take care of your animals at SIO daily.

Sorry to read of the recent bad turn for you health wise. I know that there is little I am able to do, but wanted you to know you are in my thoughts. Dotte, Thanks for your message of support and good advice about keeping good spirits and a sense of humor. I am trying to do this. Heading back to chemo in Riverside on the 9th.Yes, the family has been highly supportive and Jeff is over every pm giving shots for white cell increase. I am feeling better but get tired fast.

I think of Dick everyday and more so now that my own longevity is an issue. The 23rd of Feb meant 8 mos. I miss him everyday as I look at projects he could be helping me do. You may not know that the gkids and I put his name up in the tree house last summer. I think I told you that two years ago when I was in Kaiser after lung surgery, I woke up from a nap to find him sitting there in the dark watching over me. He is one of the finest men I ever knew. jbg

Hi Jeff. It’s me, Dotte, just checking in. I’m not techie enough to write on your blog but I want you to know I’m here and available....for you and the family. I saw you yesterday but didn’t want to infringe on family time. I think of you every day and remember how faithful you were to Dick, and later always making sure I was OK and the hedges were trimmed. As you know, I have had two run-ins with cancer and, yet, here I am. A positive attitude and good sense of humor make a difference so “keep the faith” my friend. You have the support of a wonderful family, lots of friends and a whole bunch of mud-skippers looking for a good outcome. You are all in my thoughts and prayers....including the mud-skippers.
